The Fiji Police Force is working closely with Hindu religious leaders on security plans after the desecration of the Shiv Mandir in Samabula, Suva.
Policing Minister Ioane Naivalurua said the plans have been aligned with standard operating procedures and would serve as a template for other faith-based organisations to adopt where appropriate.
“We are sending a clear and firm message that sacred spaces across all faiths must be protected,” Mr Naivalurua told Parliament yesterday.
“In line with this, the Fiji Police Force is working closely with Hindu religious leaders to co-design customised security plans aligned with our standard operating procedures.
“This template should be adopted and made available to all religious communities.”
He confirmed police patrols have been increased around key places of worship and would continue during upcoming significant religious festivals.
Mr Naivalurua made the comments in response to a question from Opposition MP Jone Usamate on what proactive steps were being taken to prevent similar incidents in future.
The Samabula incident was widely condemned by the Government, faith communities and the public, prompting renewed focus on safeguarding Fiji’s religious harmony.
