The national airline has stepped up its quality control measures in the wake of the discovery of an empty bullet casing onboard one of its commercial flights in April this year.
Civil Aviation Minister Viliame Gavoka told Parliament, Fiji Airways has enhanced its quality control measures across its network, especially at international departure points.
“CAAF continues to work with the airline to ensure compliance and vigilance at all levels,” he said.
“Let me reaffirm to this House and the travelling public that air travel remains one of the safest modes of transport globally.
“The Government, in partnership with CAAF (Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji) and Fiji Airways, is fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of aviation security.
“While this incident is concerning, it also demonstrates the strength of our systems that such objects are detected before passengers reboard.”
Mr Gavoka said they were taking this matter seriously and leaving no stone unturned in reviewing procedures to prevent any recurrence.
“We call on all stakeholders, including our travelling public, to remain vigilant and cooperative in our collective responsibility to safeguard our skies.”
