A total of 13,023 people filled up Subrail Park in Labasa to watch the pool matches of the Extra Battle of the Giants 2025.

The tournament began last Friday with the pool matches continuing till Sunday.

Day one saw a total attendance of 3967 people, day two had 4483 in attendance and day three saw 4573 people in attendance.

Fiji Football Association chief executive Mohammed Yusuf shared that with such attendance numbers, it gave Northern football fanatics a chance to get a piece of football action through the BOG.

“This is why we took the tournament because for entertainment, the Northern people miss out on the big games that are held in Suva and Lautoka and in Viti Levu,” Yusuf explained.

“This is a way we can engage with the passionate sports lovers in the North and the way they turned out in numbers shows that the bigger sporting organisations need to take some big matches (and) tournaments to Labasa so that the people have some entertainment.”

Northern fans, especially those from Labasa, have made up some of the largest turnouts in crowd attendances at major football tournaments, such as the grand final of the 2025 BiC Fiji FACT where Labasa faced Rewa at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva in June this year.

In that match, they covered the vast expanse of the grandstand and the concrete embankment in a sea of red and amplified their presence with the beating of drums as well as loud and passionate cheers that helped the Babasiga Lions win the tournament in a 4-2 penalty shootout finish.

Meanwhile, at the BOG in Labasa last weekend, Yusuf commended them for taking advantage of everything on offer at Subrail Park, like a packed beer parlour courtesy of Extra Supermarket.

“They were engaged, there were food stalls outside. Everybody was happy, the food stall owners made a lot of money because everybody was spending money and enjoying,” he mentioned.

The semi-finals and final take place this weekend at Subrail Park.
