Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, today assured Parliament that Fiji’s 5G deployment will be community-focused, equitable, and aligned with national development priorities.
In a ministerial statement he said the coalition government’s direction from day one was clear, that the five-year 5G rollout must not be restricted to Suva alone, but must address “local pain points” and deliver tangible benefits to communities across the country.
“I am pleased to inform this August House that 5G will be deployed strategically and responsibly, aligned with national development goals and infrastructure readiness,” he said.
He outlined a phased approach to the 5G rollout and in phase one Suva, Nausori, Lautoka, Nadi, Denarau and Labasa will be covered.
Also under phase one economic corridors, ports, medical centres, and tourism hubs will be targeted to ensure commercial sectors and emergency services immediately benefit from the new technology.
Under coverage will extend to Nasinu, Lami, Laqere, and parts of the Central and Southern divisions to support balanced development between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
In phase three by 2028 coverage will extend to Savusavu, Taveuni, and other strategic northern locations.
He also stressed the importance of working with telecom operators to ensure infrastructure is ready and said the government’s spectrum pricing strategy is “fair and future-focused,” given the lack of comparative regional models.
“5G will not just be about faster internet—it’s about enabling opportunity, driving innovation, and ensuring no one is left behind,” Kamikamica said.
