“NOMU liga nomu laga” will be the slogan powering the Kadavu women’s rugby side today, as they set foot into the Marama Cup for the first time.
The side is heading into the main women’s provincial rugby competition this year, following their 19-5 victory over Cakaudrove in the promotion/relegation round of the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup last year.
With an ambitious task of making a formidable first impression this afternoon, the union’s president and parliamentarian Lynda Tabuya relayed how all hands were on deck for today.
“The girls are prepared as much as they can, but it is a new platform. It’s Division One, lot of expectations on them, lots of pressure,” Tabuya told the media at the Wesley City Mission Church Hall in Suva yesterday.
“The captain didn’t come up because we had a captain’s run this morning as they continue to get ready for the game tomorrow, and it’s always about preparation.”
She emphasised that if one was to prepare their best, the results would surely follow.
Meanwhile, when asked how the news of their inclusion into the Marama Cup was received by the people of Kadavu, she said its reception was a positive one.
“It’s been very well received by the vanua,” she said, adding the grant allocated by the Kadavu Provincial Council for the women’s team had increased to $10,000 this year compared to $5000 last year.
Meanwhile, Kadavu will face Suva in their first Marama Cup at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka at 9am.
