MORE than 400 students from Levuka Public School took part in a powerful cadet passing-out parade yesterday, cheered on by families and teachers for their discipline and precision – all pulled together in just two and a half weeks.

Under the blistering Ovalau sun, students marched in full uniform, executing drill commands, salutes and coordinated formations on the school grounds.

Principal Seru Banuve said the school treated the parade as an extension of its existing culture of discipline.

“The cadetship is just like a program,” he said.

“The discipline is already there so it wasn’t too difficult to get this done.”

He said the students had less than a month to pull it off.

“We just gave them two and a half weeks – it speaks to the discipline.”

He said the parade was the third of its kind at the school and credited the students’ commitment and mind-set.

“They knew what was expected, and they delivered,” he said.

“It’s amazing to watch. This is what we were looking for in the students.”

Year 12 student Akuila Michael from Uluibau, Moturiki said the cadet program had improved his commitment to discipline.

“I was part of the program last year, it teaches us discipline and how to spend our time wisely.

“There were a lot of cardio exercise like press-ups, running especially when we did not follow instructions.

“I would encourage students to join the cadet program because it will help you go far in life with the approach to discipline it instills in us.”
