Outpatient department patients will no longer be able to get their medicine from the Aspen Medical managed Lautoka and Ba Hospitals.

Starting from today (August 1), only admitted patients will be dispensed medicine while outpatient department patients will need to obtain their prescribed medication from selected venues and other Government health centres.

“The Ministry of Health and Medical Services wishes to inform members of the public that effective from Friday 01 August 2025, there will be important changes to the process of obtaining medicines for
outpatient departments (OPD) patients seen at the hospitals managed by Health Care Fiji Limited, namely Lautoka Hospital and Ba Hospital,” a Ministry of Health statement said.

“These important changes:

1. Fijian OPD patients (citizens and residents) who have been seen at the Special Outpatient Clinic
[SOPD], Emergency Department [ED], and the General Outpatient Department [GOPD] at Ba Hospital
will obtain their discharge medications from the mobile dispensary stationed at Ba Hospital.

2. Fijian OPD patients (citizens and residents) who have been seen at the Special Outpatient Clinic
[SOPD], and the Emergency Department [ED] at the Lautoka Hospital will obtain their discharge medications from the Lautoka Health Clinic at Vidilo House.

3. OPD patients from the two hospitals can also obtain their medicines from other Government health centres and hospitals in the Western division.

4. Alternatively, patients from the two hospitals who are registered under the Government’s Free Medicine Process (FMP) can also obtain their free medicine from the Private Pharmacies participating in the Government’s Free Medicine Program.”

The Ministry of Health also released a list of registered pharmaceuticals between Rakiraki and Sigatoka where patients could get their prescribed medicine.
