Fiji Police urge safe driving after father and son perish in Lautoka accident

Police have confirmed two lives were lost in an accident in the Western Division within a 48-hour period.

The first victim, a 52-year-old man, had allegedly lost control of his vehicle he was driving, causing it to veer off the road and landed in a creek.

The second victim a 77-year-old man from Vitogo, Lautoka died as a result of the accident.

They have been identified as father and son, Rup Chand, 77, and Rakesh Chand, 52,

Police said three other passengers travelling in the vehicle sustained injuries and are currently admitted at the Lautoka Aspen Hospital in stable condition.

The national road death toll currently stands at 35 compared to 32 for the same period last year.

“Drivers are again urged to practice safe driving habits at all times as one wrong decision could prove fatal,” said Fiji Police.
