Extra Supermarket Labasa FC acknowledged the added pressure of being the host team for the upcoming 2025 Battle of the Giants tournament, which begins tomorrow at Subrail Park, Labasa.
Head coach Alvin Chand emphasised that the team’s preparation is going well, with some players from Suva joining the squad for added depth.
“The boys have done the hard yards, they are fully prepared for the competition, we have few players from Suva that joined the squad this week and are part of the preparation,” said Chand.
Chand highlighted the importance of aiming to win the tournament, just as they did in 2023.
“Any team that takes part in a tournament their aim should always be to win, and same is ours, if we have done it in 2023, we can do it again.”
He recognised that the first match is always a tough one, especially against arch-rivals Ba.
He added the team is mentally preparing for the expectations of the passionate fans.
“Being the host has an added pressure, and we all know the expectations of the babasiga fans. The boys are preparing mentally for that
“Our main aim is to win the tournament in our home soil which has not happened since 1999.”
Chand urged fans and supporters to be patient and provide encouragement from the stands, as their faith and prayers will drive the team towards victory.
The highly anticipated Extra BOG match between Labasa and Ba is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
