Today’s Fiji Rugby Union annual general meeting could see the approval of former Fijiana skipper Lailanie Burnes voted as an incoming rugby director.

This is one of the main topics that will be discussed in the annual general meeting today at Novotel in Lami.

Fiji Rugby Union board chairman John Sanday said they are looking forward to her election.

“We want the AGM to approve and vote for Lailanie Burnes as an incoming Rugby Director to fill one vacant board position.

“Lailanie is no stranger to rugby and her record and achievements speaks for itself. We are looking forward to her election and that will complete the requirement of at least two female directors,” he said.

Burnes was nominated by Nadi Rugby Union and seconded by the Yasawa Rugby Union.

Apart from this, the Union’s main topic of discussion will be on the approval of the audited accounts for 2024.

The FRU will also update the AGM on the number of projects the board is working on since their election and induction last November.

This includes: the establishment of the Fiji Rugby Players Association to look after player welfare; identification of land blocks in the West for a proposed FRU Stadium; and related activities; six Test matches against Tier 1 nations next year and the financial implications; ongoing strengthening of local rugby competition; and the Rugby Symposium planned for the end of August in the week that the FIJI Water Flying Fijians play Tonga in Suva.

The AGM will also discuss the respective motions presented by unions.

The AGM will begin at 10am and ends at 2pm.
