A total of $170,800.26 was invested in the newly opened Lagilagi Multipurpose Court in Raiwaqa, with the official opening ceremony conducted yesterday by Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru.
Saukuru expressed his pleasure at the opportunity to launch facilities that offer more avenues for sport and recreation to the Fijian people.
“I am delighted to be here in Lagilagi Housing, to formally open your new multi-purpose court,” said Saukuru
“Whether you play volleyball, basketball, or netball, you now have a modern facility worthy of your community.
“I know that good use will be made of it by the people of Lagilagi Housing, as well as by those from surrounding communities such as Veiquwawa, Raiwaqa, Vatuwaqa, and others who come to play here.”
He emphasised the government’s responsibility to support and nurture youth development across the nation, showcasing the care and commitment to the future leaders and innovators of the country.
“It is the job of your government to support and develop all youth across the nation.
“This demonstrates how much your government cares about you not only as future leaders of the country but also as current innovators and change-makers.
“As your Minister, I believe it is essential to invest in youth development and equip young people with the resources for their success.”
Saukuru extended heartfelt gratitude to the Public Rental Board team for their support in initiatives related to the court, including fencing and repainting.
He also thanked the residents for their continued assistance in promoting youth development within the Public Rental Board properties.
“This is your facility. Use it well. You have been entrusted as its custodians. Protect and maintain it diligently.
“I now have the great pleasure to declare the Lagilagi Housing Multi-Purpose Court officially open.”
