A man who assaulted his wife while she was taking away a speaker to reduce noise from his drinking session has been jailed for six months by the Nadi Magistrates Court.

The court also issued a permanent domestic violence restraining order with non-molestation conditions.

The incident occurred on May 24, 2025, in Namotomoto, Nadi.

The husband struck the wife on her left leg with a shifter after she took a speaker to reduce noise from his drinking session.

Medical evidence confirmed a hematoma, swelling, and abrasions on her leg.

In her ruling on July 9, Resident Magistrate Talei Kean set a starting point of seven months’ imprisonment, citing the offence’s domestic violence nature, use of a weapon, intoxication, and lack of provocation as aggravating factors.

A three-month deduction for the early guilty plea resulted in a final sentence of six months, with one month to be served immediately and five months suspended for five years.
