THE Vodafone Fijiana XV didn’t leave Washington with a win, but they left with something just as important, proof that they can compete with the best.
In a high-tempo test match at Audi Field yesterday, Fijiana went toe-to-toe with the USA Eagles before falling just short, 31-24.
Facing a team ranked ninth in the world and playing in front of a home crowd, the Fijiana matched the Eagles in physicality and flair, showing significant improvement in key areas such as defence, ball control and game awareness.
The performance was especially encouraging given the travel, conditions and strength of the opposition, a team with World Cup experience and a structured playing style.
The Fijiana will now shift their focus to their next test match, where they will host Samoa at Churchill Park in Lautoka on August 9.
Kick-off is scheduled for 12pm.
