FIJIANA 7s star Sera Bolatini made history for Fiji at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on Saturday by clinching the WBA Women’s Australasia Welterweight title at the ZEG Kings Boxing Promotion.

In a thrilling match against Connie Chan of Australia, the 24-year-old secured a unanimous points decision victory, becoming the first Fijian woman to capture an international boxing title.

Hailing from Vuma village in Ovalau, Bolatini displayed exceptional skill and determination throughout the fight, utilising her reach advantage effectively with powerful jabs.

She held her ground until the eighth round, where her hard work and dedication in training truly paid off.

It was an emotional moment as well after her parents joined her in the ring to acknowledge the historical achievement.

“I felt really happy for my parents who came and watch me today (Saturday night), this is also the first time they came and watched me box, so this is really a special moment for me and also for them,” said Bolatini.

Reflecting on her journey to this remarkable victory, Bolatini expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of her coach, Osea Nanovu.

“Before entering the ring, I was confident that I will win this, my coach Osea Nanovu says nothing is impossible, we have worked hard for opportunity, and we will claim this title for Fiji.

With this title win in just her third professional bout, Bolatini acknowledged the importance of perseverance and hard work in achieving her goals.

“Being just my third professional fight, I lost two and won one, I really learned from those fights, and have been improving myself during training.

“Winning this title is a really special moment for me, with all the hard work put in during training I’m grateful for this win.”

She dedicated the victory to her supporters who stood by her throughout the match, expressing heartfelt gratitude for their unwavering belief in her capabilities.
