WATER infrastructure upgrades are expected to benefit more than 80,000 people.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka made this remark while opening the 2025 FMF Nadi Bula Festival last Saturday.

He said it would benefit people including those living on Dreketi Feeder Rd, Vuda, Wairabetia, Nadi Airport, Sabeto Rd and Korovuto. Mr Gavoka said Government was also focused on essential projects such as new bridges to ease traffic between Nadi and Lautoka and fast-tracking the Nadi Flood Alleviation Project.

“To support sustainable growth, the Coalition Government will enhance coordination with the Nadi Town Council and Nadi Chamber of Commerce,” Mr Gavoka said.

“With an $8million budget in the new financial year, we aim to make Nadi a model town — resilient, forward-looking, and thriving in a peaceful Pacific.”

Mr Gavoka said Nadi Town continued to play a vital role in driving Fiji’s tourism industry.

“As the Jet-Set town, you are the people, the community that welcomes international visitors to our shores.

“At the ministry, we see tourism not only as a driver of our economy, but as a force for social good.

“This is reflected in the Fiji National Sustainable Tourism Framework, which places people, culture, and communities at the centre of all we do.

“Festivals like this one (Bula Festival), embody those values. They celebrate who we are. They unite us.”

Mr Gavoka says festivals bring visitors and locals together — not just to enjoy, but to understand, connect, and share.

“That is how tourism becomes sustainable: when it strengthens identity, uplifts lives, and deepens our collective pride in being Fijian.”
