Fiji Navy marked its 50th anniversary with a heartfelt tribute to its veterans, celebrating decades of service under the white ensign.

The day was dedicated to honoring the pioneers who shaped the Navy’s legacy, with a special focus on their enduring contributions.

Former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, a member of the original 70 naval personnel who founded the Fiji Navy in 1975 under CAPT(N) Stanley Brown, was the Chief Guest.

Now President of the Fiji Naval Association, Mr Bainimarama was welcomed with an honor guard, recognising his foundational role.

The ceremony also welcomed CMDR David Lane (Ret.), the Navy’s second Chief of Navy, whose presence added historical significance.

The event featured a solemn memorial wreath-laying to honor fallen sailors and officers, followed by the unveiling of historical Navy images that captured pivotal moments from the Navy’s past.

Chief of Navy CDRE Timoci Natuva presented a Tabua to the veterans, a traditional gesture of gratitude for their service and for laying the groundwork for today’s Navy.

“Their dedication set the course for our success,” Mr Natuva said, emphasizing the veterans’ role in building a strong foundation.
