The German ambassador to Fiji has urged young people across the country to embrace education and believe in their ability to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
Speaking during a visit to Nabua Secondary School in Suva, Dr Andreas Prothmann encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunities school provides, stressing that education is the key to unlocking their potential.
“I want to encourage you to study hard and take this opportunity that school is offering you,” he said.
Drawing from his own family’s experiences in Germany and highlighting the school’s innovative “Matua” program, Dr Prothmann spoke about the importance of lifelong learning and resilience.
“You were born to make a difference. The untapped potential of youth is very much like a tiny seed that, with care, can grow into a mighty tree.
“Mistakes are not failures but valuable lessons, leading to humility, resilience, and wisdom.”
He advised students one’s past does not define their future.
“Your past is just a chapter in your story, not the whole book.
“You are the architects of your future. I believe in each and every one of you.”
The ambassador’s visit also included a showcase by the school’s vocational students, who demonstrated their culinary skills with a variety of Danish pastries and baked goods.
Since its establishment in 2023, the German embassy in Suva has been actively engaging with communities.
