The High Court in Lautoka will rule on July 29 on an injunction application filed by ousted Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) president Dr Ram Raju.

Dr Raju’s lawyer, Anil Singh, is seeking to restrain the current president, Lawrence Kumar, from acting in the role, alleging the defendants “undermined the democratic process” and used “strong-arm tactics” to remove his client without an AGM.

Mr Singh told the court Dr Raju was elected on March 14, 2025, and dismissed without due process. He also described published letters calling for Dr Raju’s resignation as a “smear campaign”.

In response, defence lawyer Alvin Dass argued Dr Raju had not held an AGM in years, had failed to submit audited accounts, and that “an illegal meeting was held” which the defendants refused to attend.

Mr Dass said Dr Raju ran NCCI operations from his clinic and warned the organisation would “collapse” if the injunction was granted.

Justice Sekonaia Vodokisolomone will deliver his ruling at the end of the month.
