Former AG has suffered a stroke, court told

Listen to this article:

Former Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum was admitted to the hospital after collapsing due to a stroke and heart issues, the High Court learned this morning.

His lawyer, Gul Fatima, presented Mr Sayed-Khaiyum’s medical report form to Chief Justice Salesi Temo at the High Court in Suva.

Ms Fatima informed the court that the doctors indicated the former AG will require a follow-up assessment.

The Acting DPP Nancy Tikoisuva expressed no objections to his absence from proceedings scheduled for today, which was set for the hearing of his application for a variation of bail for medical treatment abroad.

The hearing on the bail variation has been postponed until August 1, allowing the defense to update Justice Temo on Mr Sayed-Khaiyum’s health condition and to report if they have submitted a response to the State’s affidavit contesting the bail variation request.
