The World Rugby ranking is important now more than ever in this Rugby World Cup cycle.

This is according to FIJI Water Flying Fijians coach Mick Byrne who said that this is particularly vital as they await the pool draws for the 2027 world cup.

World Rugby rankings are highly regarded in determining the pool allocations for the Rugby World Cup.

“So, I think if we can go up the ladder in the short term, it’s going to help. It’s not driving us around in what we do but getting wins against teams can help us, we just got to keep doing that,” he said.

Fiji could have moved up to eighth of the rankings last Saturday if it had defeated Scotland by more than 15 points.

However, Fiji just managed to secure a margin of 15 points which meant it stays in ninth place.

“We got two tier one tests later in the year; we got six next year so by next year we will know where we are and what we need to do,” Byrne added.

The rankings are used to seed the teams to the world cup, ensuring a more balanced and competitive tournament.

The top teams are seeded into different bands, and the pools are then drawn based on these bands.
