THE Fiji Police Force is investigating nine cases stemming from issues raised in the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report, Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu confirmed yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference at the police headquarters in Nasinu, Mr Tudravu provided a brief update on the scope and status of the ongoing investigations.
In addition to those investigations, he said new cases had also been launched following formal referrals and complaints.
“I wish to clarify investigations on some of the issues raised in the COI report were allegedly already ongoing with the CID prior to the release of the COI report,” Mr Tudravu said.
“Following the referral from His Excellency the President, another three investigations were opened against persons of interest on the allegations of abuse of office.
“An additional investigation was opened following the receipt of an official complaint from the former FICAC acting deputy commissioner, Frances Pulewai, for alleged obstruction, abuse of office, and perverting the course of justice in relation to the arrest of the suspended FICAC commissioner at the FICAC office.
“Altogether, we are investigating a total of nine cases.”
Providing further clarity on the progress of these investigations, Mr Tudravu revealed that one file had already been referred for legal advice.
“One of the investigation files was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Prosecutions, pending legal advice,” he said.
“Three files have been compiled for submission to the DPP’s office, while five are pending investigation.
“I want to stress again for everyone’s patience that investigations have been given a top priority, and we will
ensure that independent legal advice is handed to all cases, and further updates will be released accordingly.”
