Youths are being encouraged to take up the sport of golf, as 59 starters who took part in the Fiji Golf Club Stableford competition held yesterday at the Fiji Golf Course in Vatuwaqa.

Jerome Kado, a Fiji Golf Club member, shared his experience in the sport, stating that he has been playing golf for a couple of years and finds it to be an enjoyable challenge.

Despite not having much time to practice, Kado highlighted that golf is all about seeking perfection and the pursuit of that perfect shot.

“I started playing golf couple of years now, really enjoyed the game, unfortunately I didn’t have much time to practice the game, but then again golf is all about seeking perfection, so of course its enjoyable and we are always in search of that perfect shot,” said Kado.

The competition included participants of all ages, with men, women, and youths taking part.

Kado noted that some players from Suva may have been absent due to other major competitions in Denarau, Nadi.

However, he expressed enthusiasm for the increasing numbers of young players joining the sport, highlighting the positive trend of youth involvement in golf.

“It is a fantastic day of competition, can see the men’s women’s and the youths participating in the competition, which is great.

“The numbers fall a bit today (yesterday) because we are having few major competitions in Denarau in Nadi, so I think few of our players from Suva are part of the competition.

Kado also urged young people to seek support and resources available to them, emphasizing the potential for making a difference in the sport.

“It’s great to also see the combinations of young players, which years back we didn’t have, so it’s great to see the youths taking part in the sport and making use of their talent not only in rugby but also golf.”

Kado praised the development of the Fiji Golf Club over the years, noting the growth in participation and promotion of the sport.

He encouraged youths to take up golf, emphasizing the importance of practice and dedication to truly enjoy the game.
