Always a special moment for FIJI Water Flying Fijians flyhalf Caleb Muntz as he dons the white jersey to represent his country.

The 24-year-old has quickly become a fan favorite, but his journey to this point was not without its challenges.

After finishing high school, Muntz found himself at a crossroads. He was ready to walk away from rugby altogether due to a lack of opportunities.

“After finishing high school, I was kind of almost giving up rugby, just because there wasn’t a lot of opportunity and stuff,” said Muntz.

“And I was fine with that too, I was going to go become an engineer, but Fiji Rugby, especially the Fiji U20s were the ones that kind of gave me a lifeline, gave me a chance to continue my rugby journey.”

Now a key player in the national team setup, Muntz never takes his opportunity for granted.

He reflects on how different his life could have been if he had given up on rugby, and he is grateful for the chance to play the game he loves, especially for his country.

“It’s kind of just reminded me that my life could have been a lot different. I might not have been able to have this opportunity to play the game that I loved growing up.

“And every time I get to play, especially for my country, it’s just a reminder that you got a chance and just to make the most of it every single time you get.”

This Sunday, Muntz will be a part of the Flying Fijians that will face off against the Wallabies in Australia.
