Fiji is calling for deeper cyber security cooperation with Australia, with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirming recent sabotage incidents had required emergency support.
“Only last Saturday, we had interference with our facilities in Suva,” Mr Rabuka said.
“It took a few hours to fix, but we had to call Australia to help us fix it.”
He said a new memorandum of understanding signed with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency would enhance Fiji’s cyber resilience, particularly in critical infrastructure.
However, he urged further collaboration.
“We have discussed that, and there is room for improvement from our side.
“We are asking for more and more concerted efforts from Australia.”
Earlier, Mr Rabuka visited the Australian Defence Force’s cyber operations facilities and welcomed stronger engagement in regional cyber security.
“We’re getting into the technology,” he said.
