‘My heart is always with them.’
This was the declaration of support by former national winger Vilimoni Delasau for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians ahead of their two July Tests, the first against the Wallabies this Sunday.
“I have faith in the Flying Fijians team. My heart is always with them, I’m always backing them,” Delasau remarked.
“I wish them well, I’m praying for them, I’m behind them and I wish them well in the game, to do their best and hope they’ll make us proud.
“The thing for me, the negative side of it is, we didn’t have enough time to play together,” he shared.
“We play in different clubs and it has always been a factor that affects us but on the other positive side is we have the greatest players in all the competitions in the world.”
He mentioned powerhouse winger Josua Tuisova as an example of how effective a commitment to the game could be, especially since the Flying Fijians have a slim window to fit their training and preparations into before the Test.
“We have Tuisova who has just made the remarkable record in his carries and nobody else in the world has come close to him,” he highlighted.
“So it’s just the time to gel together and I hope they can manage that in these few days before they get on the field.”
Delasau’s support for the team comes at an opportune time for the Mick Byrne coached 32-member team that left Fiji last Friday for Australia.
With the team having European based players, Byrne, in a press conference announcing the Test squad, stated they would meet the team in Australia to complete it and amp up their preparations.
The Flying Fijians face the Wallabies at 3.30pm this Sunday at the McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle, Australia.
