Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will deliver a keynote address at the National Press Club of Australia on July 2, in a high-profile event expected to draw regional and international attention.
This marks a significant diplomatic engagement for the Fijian leader, who returned to power following Fiji’s general elections in December 2022.
The National Press Club of Australia states that Mr Rabuka was elected Prime Minister on the floor of Parliament on December 24, becoming the seventh elected Prime Minister of Fiji, and the first to be elected within Parliament.
“He is also the first elected leader in Fiji’s post-independence history to hold the office twice, having previously served as Prime Minister between 1992 and 1999.
Prior to that, he served as Co-Deputy Prime Minister in the interim government of the late Prime Minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara from 1991 to 1992, alongside the late Mr Josevata Kamikamica.
Mr Rabuka’s return to national leadership has been marked by a renewed emphasis on democratic norms, Pacific unity, and international engagement. His upcoming speech in Canberra is expected to touch on regional security, climate resilience, and Fiji’s role in the Pacific, amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.”
The National Press Club address will be closely watched across the region, offering insights into Fiji’s foreign policy direction and Mr Rabuka’s leadership on key issues facing the Pacific.
