Fiji Football Association general manager Anushil Kumar has called on the Suva City Council to treat every sport equally.
This comes in the wake of a booking dispute over Albert Park in Suva which has uncovered conflicting views.
Kumar made the comments after the SCC stated that they cannot cater for the 18-day period required by Fiji FA to cater for team training during the OFC Women’s Nations Cup next month.
SCC stated that they prefer shorter bookings particularly for four days or less.
“Our preference is short term so we give opportunities to other so, for FRU, it’s only for three days for the whole ground in comparison to Fiji FA who wants two grounds for 18 days so no one else will be able to use the venue during that period,” SCC acting chief executive Tevita Boseiwaqa stated.
Kumar claimed that wasn’t communicated to them during the initial negotiation stage.
“Not at all. They never at once mentioned that we are booking for 18 days and we were surprised that rugby was coming in for four days. We have equally loaded the training session with the other grounds that we have and for one particular day we would either be using for 90 minutes only or at most three hours if two teams are training.
“They didn’t have any problem with the timing of the booking, if they had any problem, why would they issue a quotation, why would they agreed to take our booking. This sustainability thing just came up to maybe cover up for something,” Kumar said.
He went on to say that the Fiji FA has in the past booked the same venue for periods more than five days and have never encountered issues with SCC.
Kumar also stated that two of the four grounds at Albert Park is enough for them to utilise.
