Residents of Lautoka will be able to access eye care services following the opening of Asgar Optometrists’ new branch at Vaqalo Street on Saturday.
General manager Vidya Lakhan noted the clinic’s inception in 1957 by Dr Asgar Ali in Suva and the business had since grown, and now located in Ba, Lautoka, and Nadi.
“Suva remains our head office and that is where we have our lab where all your glasses are made,” Mr Lakhan said.
“We are very fortunate that we have with us some people from overseas, and they play a very important role in our business.”
Mr Lakhan said the clinic’s relocation from the Sugar City Mall to Vaqalo Street was also attributed to its growing customer base.
“In 2008, we opened a shop in Sugar City Mall, and over the years our business has grown, and we found that place inadequate for our needs.
“We needed a bigger, more spacious place and maybe (after) 18 months of searching, we finally found this place.”
Mr Lakhan said there were also plans in the pipeline to invest in the upgrade of equipment.
“So, we have taken the opportunity to upgrade not only our clinics, but we’re also upgrading our lab in Suva, and we’re spending close to half a million to get new equipment for our lab.
“It should be in place and in operation by the end of August.
“The equipment is coming from the States, and we will have people coming in from Singapore to train our staff.
“So, all the equipment and all the glasses and all that will be done in a very modern optical instrument that we’re getting from the United States.”
