Heading to Palau with a team of five para-athletes for the Pacific Mini Games, Team Fiji’s para-athletics team is ready to face the competition that awaits them.
This is the word from Team Fiji para-athletics head coach Fred Fatiaki, who says an aim they have in mind for the Mini Games is to perform to their very best.
“Preparation is good, all athletes are well and ready to compete in Palau,” Fatiaki said.
“One of our objectives going into Palau would be performing to the best of our ability and of course, getting medals for the country itself.”
Travelling with the para-athletics team to Palau are two athletes who will make their national debut at the Mini Games; Jacob Chand and Vilimone Balenaiyau.
The duo debutants, with an F-37 classification, will compete in the shot-put events.
The classification is for field athletes with moderately affected coordination and movement down one side of their body, often referred to as hemiplegia.
Fatiaki added this classification sees them put in different categories to compete fairly.
As the Mini Games nears and so does the departure of Team Fiji as a whole to Palau at the end of this month, he thanked all those who backed the team.
The Pacific Mini Games take place from June 29 to July 9 in the city of Koror.
