Valewaquyaya squatter settlement upgrade in Ba to benefit 60 families

Sixty families residing at Valewaquyaya informal settlement in Ba are having their place of residence upgraded.

Minister for Housing Maciu Nalusima launched the project yesterday.

“The Ministry of Housing program of Upgrading informal settlements remains a key priority for this Government.” He said.

“Every Fijian regardless of their background deserve access to a secured land tenure, basic infrastructure and services, and the opportunity to build a brighter future.”

The Valewaquyaya project is one of two informal settlement upgrading initiatives in the Construction phase scheduled to commence in this financial year 2024-2025.

“It demonstrates our proactive approach to addressing housing challenges at the community level.”

“Once completed, this project will benefit around sixty families that will reside in these project lots.”

Mobile Crane Hired Services Pte Limited won the tender to do the upgrading works.

“We recognize that some challenges may arise particularly regarding boundaries, fences, or hedge adjustments, however, respectfully, we ask for your continued support in allowing adequate space for infrastructure works, especially needed to meet the road width and design specifications approved by the relevant authorities.”
