The Fiji Corrections Service said only those prisoners those who have met certain “ideals of prison life” are allowed visitations.
FCS made the comment after concerns were raised on social media claiming there were restrictions placed at the Maximum Corrections Center in Naboro.
FCS adds the Maximum Corrections Centre was designed to hold in custody offenders whose behaviour are unruly, uncooperative, unpredictable and pose a threat to the overall safety and security of the centre.
“A number of those also under the care of this Maximum facility are those who have rejected the rules of engagement that embraces the rehabilitation programme implemented in the centre concerned,” said FCS.
“The access of visiting privilege at the Maximum CC is contingent upon the prisoner’s consistent demonstration of good behaviours.”
“This includes the promotion of the prisoners within the facility operated through a stage progressive system linked to good behaviour, potential to change and contributing to the overall productivity and discipline of the centre as a whole.”
“It is therefore, important to note that visitations are based on pre-conditions that must be adhered to by inmates.”
