A break from friendly banter with her young discus teammates and Loata Lewageena stood inside the throwing circle, a few swift turns and away the discus disc flew and landed.
Lewageena is part of Team Fiji to the Pacific Mini Games in Palau and says she’s excited to be part of the national contingent.
“I’m really happy and I’m just going to trust in the Lord, because the outcome will be his all the way in the end,” Lewageena said yesterday.
She was participating at the second time trials for Athletics Fiji at the HFC Bank Stadium when this newspaper caught up with her.
The Emuri, Nadroga thrower added a setback she had to do away with at times was the lack of regard some had about throwing events.
“Some challenges I’ve faced is when people make fun of throwing; it’s like they don’t care much about it,” she explained.
She mentioned peer pressure and the challenge of balancing her studies with her sporting activities as other challenges faced as well.
The athlete with maternal links to Ono-i-Lau has lauded the support she has been receiving from her family, friends and others backing her.
“I’d like to thank all the support from home. The support has been good especially from my family,” she highlighted.
The support from home has shown itself in words of encouragement, prayers and even fasting.
This is Lewageena’s first Mini Games, having represented Fiji at the previous Pacific Games in 2023.
