THE Ministry of Youth and Sports is working to transform the country’s sporting landscape.

This is part of a Fiji National Sports Commission Act review that the ministry is doing after identifying some of the major gaps in Fiji’s sporting landscape.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Meli Nacuva revealed that one of the major factors they are looking at is the segmentation of spectators at schools’ competition level to major competitions.

“Nothing brings packed stadiums like the Fiji Finals or the Deans Finals. The whole community and even country enthusiasm seems to fade as we move towards elite competitions in the country,” said PS Nacuva in an interview.

“The segmentation of spectators, supporters become quite distinct.”

On the broader spectrum, the review is part of a collective effort in boosting performances of athletes in the Oceania region when Australia hosts the Olympic Games in 2032.

“The review is aligned to the Step-Up Oceania 2032, “Step Up Oceania” a concept to prepare the Oceania region for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“It’s part of a larger effort to create a “Home Games Advantage” for Oceania during the Brisbane 2032 Games.

” The concept aims to unite stakeholders, build alliances, and create strategic actions to improve performance and prepare Oceania for the Games,” he said.

The 2032 Olympic Games will be held in Brisbane, Australia.
