MORE than 500 students from Dilkusha Girls and Boys Primary School came together for their combined inter-house competition at the HFC Bank Stadium yesterday.
The stands were packed with enthusiastic parents who were cheering on their children as they competed in various track and field events.
Paiata Faga Savukiono, the Headteacher of Dilkusha Boys Primary School, expressed his excitement for the students’ participation in the competition.
As the first week of term two commenced, he was delighted to have the students back and engaging in the event at the stadium.
“It was a great day of competition for our students, with just the first week of term two begins, we so glad to have the students back and to come out and enjoy the event here at the stadium,” said Savukiono.
“This marks a special occasion as it was the first time for our boys’ and girls’ schools to have a joined inter-house competition.”
He adds with 200 athletes from the boys’ school and over 300 from the girls’ school, the competition featured a diverse group of participants in both track and field events.
Anticipation was high for term 3, Fiji Primary School Athletics Championship, where the schools aimed to select a top-performing team to compete.
“We are thinking of taking more then 100 athletes for both boys and girls, to take part in the competition, with the aim of winning medals for the school.
“We are so glad that we got one training club that is open at Nausori, we already lease with them, and we will be working with them in terms of training and facilities that our athletes need.
“The overwhelming support from parents, community members, and the Fiji Sports Council, who provided the venue for the event, was greatly appreciated.”
The 2025 Fiji Primary School Athletics Championship will be held in term 3.
