There has been a 19 percent increase in crimes against women this year.
This was revealed by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu during a press conference at police HQ in Nasinu yesterday.
Mr Tudravu said of the 233 reported cases which involved women, nearly half (47 percent) occurred in domestic settings, with spouses or partners being the primary perpetrators.
The most affected age group were women aged 18 to 38.
He also revealed there was a 4 percent decrease in crimes against children.
“With crimes against children and women often associated as emotional crimes, we will continue to seek public support in identifying and tackling the root causes of these moral crimes,” Mr Tudravu said.
