Despite being miles away from his family, Aman Lal did not let the bright lights of the city distract him from completing his studies.
Separated from his loved ones in Tavua while pursuing a bachelor of commerce degree at the University of Fiji’s Lautoka campus, the 22-year-old channelled his energy to the pursuit of his goals.
For three years, the vibrant allure of city life took a backseat, fuelled by the constant care and support from home.
Mr Lal said his graduation on April 4 marked the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifices.
“I’m originally from Tavua and I’ve been renting alone in Saweni,” he said.
“It has been very challenging staying away from my parents and family.”
Mr Lal credited the care, love and support of his parents as the motivating factors behind his success.
“I feel very happy, and I’m proud of myself. I have studied for this course.”
His choice of a double major in Information Technology and Tourism reflected his genuine passion.
With his undergraduate degree secured, Mr Lal remains undeterred as he looks towards postgraduate studies.
“I was more interested in information technology, and I wanted to do a double major, so I took tourism with information technology.”
At present, Mr Lal works for the Kimaya Group, a brand introduced by Tour Managers Fiji, which is a renowned destination management company in Fiji.
“I’m in their IT department,” he said.
Reflecting on how far he has come, Mr Lal said he was glad he did not let go of his dreams.
His brief yet impactful advice to aspiring students is to never lose hope and have patience while navigating the challenges of life.
