Players fitness was the primary issue for the Nasinu under-16 team as they faced a challenging defeat against Navua, losing 4-0 in the opening round of the 2025 Extra Youth Boys League competition on Saturday.
The match took place at the Pacific Theological College grounds in Nasese yesterday, where Navua demonstrated superior skills, particularly in defense and ball control, leading to their decisive victory.
Nasinu’s head coach, Jalindar Singh, acknowledged the team’s lack of preparation, saying, this was our first game, and the boys haven’t been training.
“We just assembled a team at the last minute, which contributed to our loss.”
He emphasised the need for improvement in fitness and fundamental ball skills, noting that these areas were crucial for their development.
Singh recognised Navua as the stronger side, crediting their rigorous training and the presence of talented players.
Despite the defeat, Singh remained optimistic about his team’s potential.
“We had opportunities in the first half but couldn’t capitalise on them, the odds weren’t in our favor,” he reflected.
He expressed confidence that with a week of dedicated training, the team would bounce back and improve.
“We are committed to learning and growing from this experience. This first match won’t discourage us; we will return stronger.”
Singh also took a moment to express gratitude to the players for their efforts on the field and the parents for their unwavering support.
