Fiji’s Grace Debalevu and Samoa’s Rosie Tupuola capped off a strong week of tennis by winning the Open Women’s Doubles final yesterday.
They defeated the Tuuga sisters of Samoa, Sydell Tyell Tuuga and Leah Tyrell-Tuuga in an exciting contest.
Debalevu was runners-up in the Women’s Singles category, found their rhythm as a team and lifted the coveted silverware with precise coordination and determination on court.
“We feel good.
“Our strategy was to communicate on court and try to stay consistent with how we play. That really worked for us,” said Debalevu after the final.
Looking ahead, Debalevu mentioned their focus is now shifting to their next challenge.
“Next stop is Nations Cup.”
Despite the loss, Sydell Tuuga was upbeat about her performance and returning to the court after her long break.
“It feels good to be returning to tennis after a good break.
“It’s been a good tournament, good people, I had a good time.”
Leah Tyrell-Tuuga acknowledged that their preparation could have been better.
“We could have done a lot more preparations for this match.
“But it’s been a good, long week,” she said.
