Five records were broken on day one of the 2025 Fiji Finals.
The new records were set in the sub-junior boys long jump, sub-junior boys discus, intermediate girls shot put, sub-junior girls discus and the junior girls 100m.
In the sub-junior boys long jump, Opeti Tikoisiwa of Suva Grammar School leaped to a record of 6.12m, beating the 6.03m set in 2023 by Aminiasi Tavailagi of Ratu Kadavulevu School.
Semesa Gladden of Swami Vivekananda College threw a 43.64m record surpassing Marist Brothers High School’s Maximus Lestro’s throw of 43.12m.
In the intermediate girls shot put, Mary Macedru of St Joseph’s Secondary School recorded a throw of 14.44m, dismantling her own record of 13.27m which she set last year.
SJSS also soared to a new record in the sub-junior girls discus, this time with Selestine Atalifo throwing 31.83m to break the 31.12m record held by Loata Lewageena in 2022.
Finally, the highlight of day one was Sera Nasilivata of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School running a time of 12.30s in the junior girls 100m finals.
The previous record was 12.34s held by Masilina Rakai of BA Methodist inĀ 1993.
