THE Fiji Police Force is working to “join the dots” to build cases against purported “kingpins”, says Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu.

Mr Tudravu has also expressed concerns about the large amount of drug cultivation that continues in areas like Kadavu.

“We are trying to join the dots in terms of how we look at things holistically, especially when you talk about marijuana, you try to look at the cultivators, the transporters, the buyers, the users,” he said.

“These are some things that we are trying to get, and our investigators are doing that.”

He said some potential people were identified and the police was focused on building cases against those behind the illicit drug trade.

“Even the large amount of cultivation that is currently being undertaken is a concern, and it’s really a concern for us.

“The legitimisation of the money that is received from this illegal means; that is the worry that we are having now.

“Say, for instance, I think for example, Kadavu, which is three tonnes marijuana seizure last month. Definitely, there’s money going around.”

Mr Tudravu said they were trying to nip this in the bud and stop the next generation of people from carrying out the cultivation.

“What we are trying to confirm now is the users, the buyers, (whether) local or if there is also evidence that (it) is being sold outside of Fiji. That is something that our investigators are looking into.”
