A lautoka couple on drug charges have been warned by the High Court not to miss any more court dates.

Rizwan Ali and his de-facto partner Grace Katia Liuvoliga were issued the warning by Justice Riyaz Hazma at the High Court in Lautoka yesterday when they finally made an appearance after missing two previous court dates.

Justice Hazma said the couple had given two sick leave certificates for missing the court dates but each time they had suffered the same sickness.

“For the previous court date, you both had gastritis,” said Justice Hazma.

“You were both getting gastritis on the same day, so you have to be careful with what you eat.

“It happened too in November last year when you both had the same sickness again.”

Justice Hazma said the couple were on their last warning and if they missed another court date, they would be issued a bench warrant.

He said he would also issue summons to their doctor to appear in court.

The pair are charged in relation to the seizure of more than 12.33 kilograms of cocaine on February 15 last year along the Vuda Bypass Rd in Lautoka.

The case has been adjourned to April 23 for voir dire disclosures.
