ELEMENTZ Suva touch rugby team is aiming for the top spot after a strong showing in the second round of the 2025 Suva Touch Rugby Association season, held last Saturday at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School (MGM) grounds.

In the men’s open division, Elementz played to a 4-4 draw against 2Fresh, while their mixed open team triumphed 5-1 over Roosters.

These results keep Elementz on track as they push for the title.

Joshua Autar, a key player for Elementz side reflected on last year’s success saying, “We finished in the finals last year in both the men’s and mixed masters’ divisions, so we’re aiming to go one step further this year.”

He added, “We’ve been training from Monday to Thursday, focusing on basic skills and improving our teamwork.”

Autar, who plays the ‘links’ position a key playmaking role shared that the team’s age range is wide, with players as young as 13 and as old as 41.

“It’s great to see young players coming in, but it’s a challenge to bring them up to speed. However, the focus is on long-term development and helping them grow,” he added.

Despite challenges like Albert Park’s closure, Autar remains confident in the team’s progress.

“We’ve been adapting to the changes and improving every week. We can only get better from here.”

With its dynamic and fast-paced nature, touch rugby offers a welcoming environment for players of all physical abilities.

As Autar put it, “Touch rugby is perfect for anyone who loves rugby but doesn’t have the physical attributes for full-contact games, and it’s a great fitness booster.”
