The Khan family of Viseisei Back Rd East did not celebrate Eid with their families because of the water problem in the area.

Speaking to this newspaper yesterday, Rukshar Khan said her primary school daughter had missed classes since last week.

“Today (yesterday) is Eid, our festival, and we have to bathe,” she said.

“It is very hard for us because water is a basic need.

“By now we should be ready and going around visiting our families to commemorate Eid.”

Another resident Gayatri Devi, 82, said water would come out of the taps at about 9.30am and closed at 11am.

“This is the first time we have been experiencing this issue,” Ms Devi said.

“My daughter had contacted WAF and they said there was no water in the reservoir.

“It’s difficult because I need to use the washroom and do the cooking for my family. This water from the water carting services is not enough.”

Meanwhile, the Water Authority of Fiji’s acting manager for communications & stakeholder engagement Peni Shute said: “Water carting relief is also being deployed to assist affected residents”.
