MEMBERS of the public joined in belated Holi celebrations organised at My Suva Picnic Park last weekend, with free food and entertainment organised by the India Fiji Friendship Forum and Indian High Commission.
Chief guest, Defence and Veteran Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua said Holi was an occasion which reminded people of what really mattered.
“It breaks down walls between status, faiths and generations,” he said.
“In colour, we are equal. In celebration, we are one. Today, as we light the diya, let us not only honour tradition but also allow it to light something within us.
“A call to live with more compassion, understanding and more courage to protect the unity we too often take for granted.”
He said the generosity of spirit was what made this celebration more than a festival, but rather, a gift.
Indian High Commissioner Suneet Mehta also congratulated the organisers and reaffirmed India’s partnership with Fiji.
