A total of 75 bonus points will be awarded to the winner of the men’s category for the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s at Prince Charles Park, which starts today.

The bonus points system was introduced into the Fiji Bitter 7s series in during the Marist 7s tournament in 2021 and created as an incentive towards reducing disciplinary issues on the field.

The 75 points may serve as a motivating factor for the Viti Roofing Devo Babas team, which leads the men’s series standings so far with 1012.316 points.

The team has cemented its lead in the series after beating Police Blue in the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s in Taveuni last year, and then successive wins in the Labasa, Savusavu and the Tabadamu 7s last month.

The bonus points system will give an added boost to all teams advancing onto the Marist 7s next week, the final leg of the series.

The winning team for it will be awarded 100 points, a sure shot towards clinching the title of overall series winners after 12 stops in the series, which began last October in Kadavu.

Meanwhile, competition starts today at 10am with Axellerate Aflame Brothers v Nahehevia Blues in the under-21 category at ground one, Vonoyauyau Rugby v Korotabu in ground two, and Nakovacake v Blue Natural Korolevu in ground three.

Games are expected to wrap up at 5.14pm today when the final matches for the men’s category will be played.

In those matches, Nawaka Black meets Duiyasana at ground one, St John Lomary faces Vunabaka Sunwolves at ground two, and Lomati Rugby v Nasavusavu Youth 2 in ground three.

The Nawaka 7s will run for three days instead of the initial two, due to a large number of 104 teams participating.

Competition will end this Saturday.
