A FAMILY is demanding answers following the tragic death of their loved one, Manoa Tugi, who was killed when a diving tank exploded at his workplace in Wainibokasi.

In an interview with this newspaper in Labasa, Vanua Levu, Tugi’s aunt Vani Lewalevu said there was lack of clarity surrounding the death of the 27-year-old.

“We do not know the full details surrounding his death,” she said, adding his employer had not been forthcoming with information.

“I was only told by a police officer that there was a gas explosion which led to his death.”

She described her nephew as someone who always put others first.

“We are devastated.

“Manoa was a kind-hearted person, always willing to help others. He didn’t deserve this.

“We need to know what went wrong. He was a gentle soul, always eager to lend a hand. It’s hard to believe he’s gone.”

Ms Lewalevu said there was a need for a thorough investigation to get to the bottom of the incident and hold those responsible accountable.

“We deserve answers.

“Manoa’s life was taken too soon, and we need to know why this happened,” Ms Lewalevu said.

Police, in a statement said, a co–worker of Tugi was using a grinder to cut the empty tank when it exploded.

However, what led the employer to cut the tank was not detailed by the police.

Police said the co-worker using the grinder and another employee suffered injuries.
