Fifteen (15) netball association presidents from all over Fiji have called for a Special General Meeting (SGM) later this month after filing a motion of no confidence in Netball Fiji’s (NF) executive committee.
In a letter delivered to its president RubyAnn Sorovaki dated last Friday, it called on the committee to step down in two motions.
The first motion of no confidence listed a total of 12 points, ranging from nepotism, the Fiji Pearls recent 16th place world ranking, lack of professionalism and transparency, and the lack of development of umpires and coaches, to name a few.
The second motion proposed the appointment of an interim committee to take up office for no more than four months and set the organisation in order.
The letter has been signed by 15 presidents of the parent body’s member affiliates in accordance with clause 9.1 of Netball Fiji’s constitution.
These presidents head the Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, Tavua, Ba, Vatukaloko, Rakiraki, Tailevu, Fiji Primary Schools, Fiji Secondary Schools, Ovalau, Naitasiri, Savusavu, Nasinu Primary Schools, Wainikeli, Taveuni and Ra netball associations.
Meanwhile, Netball Fiji responded yesterday to the moves proposed by the concerned executives.
It stated they would adhere to its constitution on the matter of calling a SGM and would work closely with its affiliated districts and council for proper adherence to the process of addressing the concerns raised.
“Netball Fiji remains committed to transparency, good governance, and the best interests of the sport and its stakeholders,” it said in a statement.
“We assure our members and the wider netball community that all matters will be handled with fairness, and in accordance with our governing principles.”
In accordance with clause 9.1 of the constitution, the SGM has been called for Saturday, March 29.
