UNITY Fiji Party leader Savenaca Narube has again raised concerns on the state of services and the lack of some basic medical supplies in hospitals.

He said the prompt resolution of health issues should be Government’s top priority.

“They (Government) just do not have enough money for health,” Mr Narube said.

“Perhaps it’s also the management of the little resources that they have.

“The two are of course related, but the seriousness of the issue of health, to me, should be the first priority to Government.

“The basic needs of health are not available in our hospitals. The break-down of machines, no laundry in CWM Hospital, those things.

“I wonder to myself, why don’t they go in straight and repair those things? How much would they cost? I’m sure they’ll cost less than they’ve increased in their salaries.”

Mr Narube said health issues should be solved immediately.

“I urge them (Government), don’t deny, please concede and find solutions to it. People are not fools, people are not blind. They know what’s happening.

“Health is a priority and we need to reflect that in the government allocation of resources.”

Health Minister Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu told Parliament yesterday the ministry was finalising its Primary Health Care Strategy that would guide the transformation of Primary Health Care services at all levels in the ministry in the years to come.

“The transformation is necessary to ensure we are tackling health problems early through health prevention and promotion strategies with early referrals before they become severe and complicated, and more difficult to address,” Dr Lalabalavu said.

He said the ministry remained committed to embarking on a transformative journey for our healthcare system.

“This year, we will initiate the formulation of the new 5-year National Health Strategic Plan for the period 2026 – 2030.”
