THE Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will be without some of their star players, including co-captain Frank Lomani, Iosefo Masi, and Peni Ravai, for their crucial clash against the Waratahs this Friday.
Head coach Glen Jackson confirmed the trio’s absence, dealing a significant blow to the team as they seek their first win of the season.
Lomani and Masi are both sidelined with ankle sprains.
“Not big serious injuries but again it’s two of our great players that are there,” Jackson said.
Their absence leaves a gap in the backline, particularly with Lomani’s leadership and Masi’s attacking prowess.
Peni Ravai, who made a strong return recently, will also miss out due to a back injury.
“He just had a bit of a back seizure more than anything. Nothing too dangerous or too long but he’ll be having a rest this week,” Jackson explained.
The team is keen to manage his workload carefully given his injury history.
On a positive note, Etonia Waqa is back in contention for selection after a nine-month injury layoff, and Selestino Ravutaumada is expected to return in a week’s time.
With these key players out, Jackson faces a selection dilemma but remains confident in his squad’s depth and capability.
The Drua play the Waratahs at 8.35pm in Sydney on Friday.
