Minister for Sugar Charan Jeath Singh has called on ‘absentee farmers’ to surrender their cane farm leases.
This, he said would work in the ministry’s favour as they worked towards increasing cane production.
“Some live in America, Australia, Canada and New Zealand but have produced nothing on their leased farms,” he said.
“These are absentee farmers and they hold land lease which produces nothing.
“I have no apology to make but I call on them to surrender their lease so we can give it to others who will make good use of it.”
